Is there a recommended configuration for EZProxy to use BrowZine?

While we are also compatible with the "Proxy by Port" configuration, BrowZine, like OCLC, recommends the "Proxy by Hostname" configuration for use with BrowZine.  It has been our experience that this results in a faster and more reliable user experience for BrowZine users and also provides general web users of library services with the ability to have a readable URL for bookmarking and sending to other users.

If your library currently is configured as "Proxy by Port" you can transition to "Proxy by Hostname" following these instructions on OCLC's website.

Do I need to setup a proxied link to BrowZine for my users to access it?

Generally speaking, you should not need to set up a proxied link.  BrowZine is designed to be an open service to minimize user friction to get to their favorite journals.  BrowZine automatically applies your proxy when it requests full text for subscribed titles.  However, there may be circumstances where you do want to proxy the link to BrowZine.  In this case, please use your specific library account link when setting up the proxy.  For example, if your account ID is "222", then your link would look something like this:

http://proxy.institution.edu/login?url=http://browzine.com/libraries/222

Please do not just proxy "browzine.com" as this may not work properly to route users to YOUR library.  If you have any questions about linking options, please let us know at support@thirdiron.com and we would be happy to assist.
