BrowZine Features

create lists of unread articles
Sometimes I find new articles get embedded really far into the journal volume list and it's difficult to find them if the journal publishes a lot. It would be nice if the new unread articles could also be viewed directly in a list, as I think this would be easier to parse through quickly.

Include Abstact Images in the ToC
Enable images associated with the abstracts to be visible in the ToC. This is especially import for chemistry journals, as the abstract images contain significantly more information than the title.
9 votesDue to publisher copyright restrictions we will not be able to add this feature. Thank you for the suggestion!

Display not only articles, but also the section they belong to in TOC
Many journals have their articles grouped into different types (e.g. Research Article, Book Review, Original Research Article, Review Article etc.). In the original TOC of the journal this is visible and helps the reader to separate the different types of articles. However, in BrowZine this information gets lost. Is the a possibility to retain it? It would be a great help for our users.

Enable addition of chat widget / LibAnswers
Add the ability for libraries to include their chat widgets / "Ask a Librarian" within BrowZine, so that users can ask for help locally.

Support Export to Refworks Flow
Add Refworks new product, Flow, to the list of supported export options from BrowZine
6 votesRefworks Flow has been discontinued and is being migrated to Refworks 3 (https://flow.proquest.com/). We have a new feature request for Refworks 3 support here: http://support.thirdiron.com/forums/181845-browzine-features/suggestions/13697841-add-support-for-refworks-3 which we encourage you to upvote to track the progress on this.

WebDAV support for Zotero
Currently BrowZine only supports saving PDFs directly to Zotero's servers. Zotero features a capability to save to WebDAV services instead, but this is not currently supported in BrowZine. Add support so that a user could put in their personal WebDAV credentials and save PDFs there instead of at Zotero's servers.
11 votesThank you for the suggestion, but we have decided not to implement this feature.

mark issue as read
Duplicate the 'mark issue as read' button at the bottom of the list of articles (web interface), so you don't have to scroll back up to click it.

Would love to see holdings information when browsing so users don't have to load each one at a time to see if they can get full tex
At the moment you have to open each journal title to find out what access is available to the user. It would be much more intuitive to have this information at the browse page.

Add built-in function to close/exit BrowZine on smartphone
There isn't currently a built-in function to close/exit the BrowZine app on a smartphone. As a work around, I had to restart my device. It is easy to see how such a feature would be very useful.
2 votesBrowZine is designed to be available for the user whenever they need it, so there is not a function to “close/exit” the app on mobile devices. If this is something you do want to do on a regular basis however, I would encourage you to look at our instructions for cold starting the app which should achieve much the same effect without needing to restart your device:
Android/Kindle Fire:

Show all journals in the library and their number in addition to journals and their number in each category.
Users want to see the scope/size of the library. They are asking how many journals are available in total. Subject categories artificially and subjectively segment journals. They may hide some journals from the users especial in the highly interdisciplinary research. Researchers do not want to jump between multiple categories and repeat browse in each.

Synchronize PDFs in Saved Articles across devices.
I find selecting PDFs for later reading on an iPhone quite doable, but when I want to read them on the ipad or PC; I have to duplicate that chore. Ideally, Saved articles and later the Reading List on the PC would sync.
2 votesSending PDFs between devices would violate the terms of service for most publisher licenses. However, with the release of My Articles coming soon, you will be able to sync the metadata for those articles giving you one-click access to download that article on any device. Thank you for the suggestion!

Error alerts/log for library
If a user encounters an error such as "Full Text Failure - Your institution does not have access to this title. Please see your library for assistance", chances are they won't contact the library. It would be great if there was an option for the library to somehow be able to access a log or alert that these errors are occurring, so then we may properly update our holdings

Please include individual Open Access articles that are published in subscription journals.
Many subscription journals include individual articles that are Open Access. These often carry a CC licence or can be Identified using the NISO standard: http://www.niso.org/workrooms/ali/
Please include them in the Open Access collection.6 votes -
Please expand usage statistics with an overview of registered users/accounts per institution
We would like to know how many persons (staff and students) of our institution downloaded BrowZine and created an account.
32 votesWhile we understand the interest in this, because of the anonymous way that BrowZine was designed for privacy of the user, we are not able to pursue this feature. Our apologies!

The way to use BrowZine on a PC is via browzine.com. We do not intend to make a stand-alone application for Mac or PC. Thank you!

Allow users to simultaneously access multiple institutions' resources.
Our faculty members are affiliated with multiple institutions and find the process of signing in and out cumbersome. They would like to be able to access all of the content they are entitled to access, regardless of which institution provides the access.
6 votesThank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately, we will not be attempting merge account views in this manner. Hopefully however we have setup the ability to change libraries in a quick and efficient manner minimizing this burden. Thank you again!

Add punctuation to the Subject line when sharing articles via email
To separate "Sharing" from the article title, to have some of the words stand out a bit more, and to have it look less like spam, add a colon (:) after Sharing, and enclose via BrowZine in brackets,
eg from this: Sharing A RDF-based approach to metadata crosswalk for semantic interoperability at the data element level via BrowZine
to this: Sharing: A RDF-based approach to metadata crosswalk for semantic interoperability at the data element level (via BrowZine)1 vote
