BrowZine Features
-
cease use of blacklist and whitelist in all documentation
We all know what these mean only because we were told what they mean. If purplelist has no intuitive meaning to anyone, why should these? Let's put an end to it now.
1 voteThanks for the feedback! All documentation has now been altered to remove these terms.

add the capability to login via SSO.
Integrating the ability to login using SSO would make accessing BrowZine much easier.
10 votesThis is now complete for mobile as well as web. Thank you!
-
Add ability to customize the taxonomy/which subjects appear
It would be nice to suppress subject areas that appear in BrowZine which are not relevant to a particular library. For example, for hospital libraries to suppress the Arts & Humanities subject area.
16 votesYou can now request via support@thirdiron.com to suppress any of the top levels of the taxonomy to create a more appropriate view of your collection for your users. Contact us for assistance if this is of interest to you!

This is now complete and you should see this on new usage reports that are distributed. Thank you!

Title keyword search as well as exact match
We've had feedback from users who didn't find what they were looking for in BrowZine because the title search function only works with an exact match.
For example, if I'm looking for American Journal of Dance Therapy I can get to it by searching any of the words in the title in the correct order - so 'of dance' will retrieve the result I want. However if I search the keywords American dance then I get zero results.
Title keywords alongside exact matches would be a welcome addition.
6 votesThis is now live. Thank you for the suggestions!

Treat end dates of journal coverage in similar way to embargoed content
I believe you may already be working on this. Could content beyond an end date of coverage be shown in the same way as embargoed content so users can request articles in these later issues from the library? Posting this to get an update on when this is likely to go live. Thank you.
4 votesThis is now complete! If you have a title that you cancelled a few years back so that there is a hard end date, BrowZine will continue to display these articles but will link the user to ILL/Document Delivery to request the full text.
-
Customization options for homepage image
Provide options for libraries to select an image of journal titles representative of their holdings / user community. E.g. a medical library could select a stock image reflecting top medical journals while a liberal arts college could select an image reflecting top titles from a variety of disciplines.
8 votesThis is now complete! If you have a custom image you would like us to use instead of the collage, please send us the link at support@thirdiron.com and we can make this change for you. Thank you!
-
Provide the option for libraries to customize the "help" link.
Option to swap the current link to Third Iron support with a link to their own help page.
4 votesWhile you cannot customize the “help” link you CAN now add a new custom link to the header which could be used for a “Library Help” button to be added! Please contact support@thirdiron.com for assistance!
-
Add alternate Help button on BrowZine Web to go to library instead of Third Iron support
Turn the Help icon into a drop down menu, allowing users a choice of contacting either Third Iron support or the library for support.
6 votesWhile you cannot change the BrowZine Help button to go to the library for help. We have added a feature whereby a library can add a new CUSTOM link to the header which could be used to provide a library help option. Contact us at support@thirdiron.com to get this setup for your library. Thank you for the suggestion!
-
Add the ability to send an ILL request as an email
When a user cannot download an article would it be possible to allow the user to request an ILL from the library via an email
1 voteThis feature is now available! If you require this, please contact support@thirdiron.com!

Add an overall category for to the marketing widget
The categories are great for our faculties, but for our Digital Library we would like the possibility to show journals from all categories in the widget.
2 votesSee rsebek’s solution within the comments of this enhancements. Thanks Robert!
-
Add Support for Refworks 3
Please add Support for exporting from BrowZine to Refworks 3.
16 votesThis feature has been completed for some time using the linking method, including on the web. We were keeping this open in case ProQuest built an OAuth mechanism for authentication similar to Mendeley and Zotero, but as that has not happened we are considering this case complete. Thank you!
-
make the BrowZine widget responsive.
The current widget design is not responsive for viewing on mobile devices.
34 votesThanks for your patience! The widget has been updated now with a responsive option. Please update your widget code here: http://thirdiron.com/widget if you are interested in the widget on your page being mobile responsive. Thank you!

Marketing widget between 190 and 400 pixels
Is it possible to get a BrowZine widget that's between the 190 and 400 pixel widths. In LibGuides, the 190 looks good in 25% columns, and the 400 fits within 42% and 50% columns. But for 33% columns, the 190 is too narrow and the 400 runs into the next column.
2 votesThe marketing widget is now available as “responsive” which should automatically scale to desired widths. Please choose the “100%” responsive view to use this feature. Thank you!
-
Eliminate the "dead end" caused by partial title matches
Currently if a title search results in a partial match, it will retrieve journals that are not exactly the one wanted. If this happens, the user will not get the link to search outside of Browzine, and no other options are given. Please add the option to search outside of Browzine when partial matches are retrieved.
3 votesThis enhancement is considered completed! The solution here was in the ingestion of all holdings data for a library, even those not covered by BrowZine which was released about 4 months after this request was filed in Feb 2016. However, we have rolled out this enhancement over our hundreds of subscribing libraries over a series of months because of the extra configuration involved but can now say this solution has been implemented. Thank you!

Make access to browzine.com available to mobile devices too
I (Leiden Univ) deleted the app from my mobile device and went to browzine.com. The app will be opened but I prefer the mobile website.
15 votesGood news! BrowZine.com is now fully mobile responsive with all features available! Thank you for the suggestion!

Add Bibtex as bibliographic system
Yesterday I had a presentation of Browzine for our institute of computional engineering. They were positive, but it was mentioned that they miss the opportunity to export into Bibtex. Some of them use the program LaTeX for writing instead of MS Word, and Bibtex is used as bibliographic management system in addition to this.
1 voteThis is now available for all articles on BrowZine.com!
-
add closed captioning to the vimeo video.
It is problematic for us as an academic institution to link to vendor videos that are not accessible for our users.
2 votesThank you for the suggestion! We have added close captions to our main video which we link to on our home page and via the widget. We’ll look to do this for all future user-facing videos as well!
-
add alt-text to the Browzine widget.
The current widget is not accessible without alternative text for the images.
2 votesWe have updated our widget to include alternate text for the images – both buttons and the journal images. Please let us know if you have any questions!
-
Enhance widget to display top ranked journals for a particular category
Some categories have a number of titles, so having the widget intelligently select "top journals" would be great to help promote BrowZine.
5 votesThe newest widget does do this (and has for some time but forgot to update this feature request!) Thanks for the suggestion!
