About Accounts in BrowZine

BrowZine interacts with several different user accounts to power the BrowZine service and all of its functions. Not all of these are visible but here is a brief description of the various accounts that are accessible and what function they serve.

BrowZine Account - This is a user account which allows you to customize the contents of My Bookshelf, My Articles and to access options such as being able to clear all unread articles. A BrowZine account is free to create and is not required to access articles, only to access these additional features. It is not involved in logging you in to access articles. See our BrowZine Account FAQ for more detailed information.

Library Login Credentials - If your library uses a proxy server or similar technology for remote authentication BrowZine can store your user credentials and log you in automatically to access articles. Some libraries may not see this option because they use systems like a VPN service or have no remote authentication options. Our How Does The BrowZine App Handle Authentication? article explains much more about how this process works.

Citation Services - Citation services use credentials via OAuth which means that once you have signed in at the appropriate service site, a secure token from that service is stored within BrowZine so that the app does not need to ask you to manually sign in over and over again. All of the BrowZine platforms also feature an option to "forget" this token so that BrowZine no longer can auto-sign in to the service when exporting citations. More information is available in our BrowZine and Citation/Bibliographic Management Services article.

Email Accounts - BrowZine offers a function to email a citation to yourself a colleague which requires the use of an email client on your mobile device or desktop computer. There is no email client built into BrowZine so to use this function you must have an email service available on that device which you can utilize.
