Creating an OpenAthens account for Third Iron Support

Modified on Tue, 9 Jul at 11:51 AM

To create an OpenAthens account for Third Iron Support to use during testing, you'll be using their Add - Personal account process (full documentation linked here).

In OpenAthens Admin navigate to  Accounts > Add > Personal account to get started.

(Step 1) Login:

Due to Third Iron having access to its own OpenAthens instance for testing and administrative purposes, we are unable to use any @thirdiron.com email for OpenAthens test accounts with other libraries. Instead, please create a personal account using the username/password option.
  • Set a username (ex. tisupport)
  • Leave the "Login by email address" box UN-checked
  • Set an expiration date.
  • For the last set of options next to "Create account and" we recommend selecting Specify a password now. Set a password and please note these credentials to send to support.
  • Click Next.

(Step 3) Optional Details:  You can skip this step or add optional details as desired. Click Next.

(Step 4) Permission sets:

  • Please select from the list provided for your institution (the default permission set is generally recommended unless you'd like help with troubleshooting another set of permissions specifically).
  • Click Create account and then let support know the login details.
  • Be sure to include the default OpenAthens prefix that precedes the username (login will not work without the prefix intact)

Send the account details to support@thirdiron.com
