Cabells and Third Iron have collaborated to bring Cabells' awareness of problematic journals and websites to LibKey! Using Cabells' data LibKey will now highlight when an article or website domain is associated with a journal or URL labeled as predatory in Cabells' Journalytics data.
This signposting will appear across LibKey in a similar way to retractions, expressions of concern and our other scholarly intelligence features. This integration revolves around two related features: Problematic Journals and Problematic Domains.
Problematic Journals
With this feature if you look up an article DOI from a journal that appears in Cabells' data in LibKey.io you'll see a variation of our usual Format Chooser which indicates the article is from a Problematic Journal. This page will offer some additional details taken from Cabells' data and have a link to view their full report in Cabells Journalytics:
Any link resolver requests run through LibKey Link will also be checked against Cabells' data and get routed to this landing page if applicable.
Users will also see this "Problematic Journal" messaging shown elsewhere across LibKey such as in LibKey Discovery:
And in LibKey Nomad:
Problematic Domains
The Problematic Domain feature is unique to LibKey Nomad. This feature highlights when a user with Nomad installed visits a webpage associated with a journal domain name in Cabells' predatory journal data. Nomad will highlight when the URL a user visits is in this data and show a Problematic Domain warning:
This Problematic Domain button will link to a LibKey landing page which summarizes the journals affiliated with that domain and the violations listed for them in Journalytics. There will again be a link to view the full report for all of these journals in Cabells Journalytics:
Common Questions
What does our library need to do to enable this feature?
For mutual subscribers of Cabells and LibKey this feature will be enabled by default. Third Iron and Cabells will also ensure new subscribers of either service are checked and activated as needed.
